Oklahoma Thunderbird ASL Tourney 2009

Oklahoma City, OK   6-8 November 2009         Game room doors open Friday, 6 Nov at 0800 hours

Registration Info:     Friday thru Sunday: $35.       Saturday and Sunday: $30.

Room Rates (tax not incl.): $89.00.  Rate deadline is Thursday October 22.   Mention you are with the Oklahoma ASL to get this rate. The game room opens at 0800 on Friday. The first initial qualifying round will be played at 0900 Friday with the last scenario played on Sunday morning.

1. This year’s tournament will consist of a Main Tournament as well as an Other Tournament. Friday scenarios qualify players to initially play as one of 16 participants in the Main for all the glory. Stay in the running through Saturday and you’ll be one of two players vying for a gorgeous Thunderbird Trophy on Sunday morning. First and second places will be awarded. If you don’t qualify for the Main Tournament you will play in the Other Tournament and qualify for the Sunday morning competition for the Other Tournament’s  two Thunderbird trophies. In addition, Saturday night, we will conduct the raffle for an opportunity at the prize table. Refer to our Tournament Rules for more detail.

FYI – As many know Gary Trezza has the first round of the National ASL Sweet 16 Tournament underway.  Two of our attendees, Mike Seningen  & Wes Vaughn, will play an opening round game of that national tournament as part of the 3d Annual Thunderbird ASL Tournament Qualifying Round.

2. The scenario list with all scenarios available to choose from will be posted on the Oklahoma ASL site one month prior to the tournament. Choose your top ten and negotiate at the tourney!  *** Please follow the link in Sponsor button above for the first 27 scenarios.  More will be added as the Scenario Team continues their review.***

3. A variety of gaming and military themed prizes will be awarded during the tourney. The popular “Best Hand, Worst Hand” Card Game will be back!

4. Venue: New location this year at the Holiday Inn Norman, 1000 N. Interstate Drive, Norman, OK 73072.  The hotel accommodations are first class. Normally, $109.00 per night, we are receiving each suite at $89.00 before tax. This rate is not guaranteed past the deadline of October 22.  Call the hotel using their direct number 1-405-364-2882 and mention the Oklahoma ASL rate. This rate gets you: 

  • Free Breakfast Buffet—its big-- when you join the FREE Priority Club Rewards program at check in.
  • Free high speed internet access
  • Indoor swimming pool

10 rooms with double beds are currently blocked and more will be made available, but if you need a single king the rate will still be good. Mention you are with the Oklahoma ASL tournament.  There is an Outback Steak House, Cracker Barrel Restaurant, Rib Crib, and an Arby’s each within walking distance and many other fine restaurants within a short drive of the hotel. Maps of the local area will be provided.

6. Directions: Coming from either I-35 North or I-35 South, come to Norman and take the Robinson Street exit.  The Holiday Inn sits on the west side of I-35 on the access road just south of Robinson.  You will see it clearly so I won’t give you all of the turns. **************************************************************************
